Why are many job openings advertised only as temporary?
As a research institution, we are subject to the German Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act (WissZeitVG). If you would like more information about the Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act, please refer to the relevant legislation: https://www.gesetze-im-internet.de/wisszeitvg/
Can I write my thesis or pursue a doctorate at BI?
At BI, you can complete academic projects as part of your studies, including Bachelor's theses, Master's theses, and project work. BI supports and encourages doctoral research. Current doctoral positions can be found on our website. During your doctorate, you will benefit from our experience, a supportive working environment, and an established professional network.
Is the Barkhausen Institut part of TU Dresden?
No, BI is a subsidiary of TU Dresden, but operates independently from TUD in both scientific and economic terms.
What if I do not meet all the required qualifications?
Are you interested in the position but feel that you do not meet all the requirements listed in the job posting? At Barkhausen Institut, we look for potential and are committed to actively supporting its development. We do not hire resumes, we hire people. Therefore, we encourage you to apply.
I am from abroad. Where can I get support with administrative procedures and finding accommodation?
We would be happy to connect you with the Welcome Center of DRESDEN-concept. The team has specific expertise in visa application procedures and can provide you with information on all important upcoming appointments and processes (e.g., applying for a residence permit/work authorization, registering with the City of Dresden, finding health insurance) as well as assist you in your search for accommodation.
We recommend good applicants to our partners of the communities of the Empfehlungsbund.de.
