The BI aboard MS Wissenschaft 2025

The Barkhausen Institut is contributing to the MS Wissenschaft 2025 exhibition with an interactive exhibit. As part of Germany’s Science Year, the exhibition ship will tour across the country, focusing on “Energy of the Future.” The exhibition addresses the growing energy demand and explores innovative approaches to sustainable energy supply.

Titled “On the Move in the Web – How Much Energy Does Mobile Internet Consume?”, the Barkhausen Institut’s exhibit invites visitors to take part in an interactive quiz. They will discover what happens behind the scenes when browsing on mobile devices, why it consumes energy, and how different transmission methods impact energy use.

Developed in collaboration with Fraunhofer IIS Nürnberg, the exhibit is part of the 6G Platform research project. A key focus is the rising use of mobile networks, which require significantly more energy than wired connections. To curb excessive energy consumption, future mobile communication must become more energy-efficient.

The MS Wissenschaft makes scientific research tangible, sparking discussion on future challenges. The Barkhausen Institut is pleased to contribute to the debate on sustainable digitalization with its exhibit.

After the exhibition’s opening on May 14 in Berlin, the MS Wissenschaft will travel across Germany. More details can be found in the 2025 tour schedule.

The exhibition will be open daily from 10 am to 6.30 pm. After registration, school classes are welcome to visit starting at 9 am. Admission is free. You can find further information and any deviations on the MS Wissenschaft website.
