Over 70 Young People Explore Research at BI

For three days, the Barkhausen Institut (BI) and the Else Kröner Fresenius Center for Digital Health (EKFZ) welcomed young visitors to explore how research works in practice. Two eighth-grade classes from Gymnasium Klotzsche and scholarship holders from the Roland Berger Foundation gained insights into everyday scientific work.
Talks by BI researchers introduced current projects and topics from the fields of digital health, trustworthy systems, and robotics. In the BI Learning Lab workshops, participants got hands-on: learning about data privacy through an escape room game, using their own bodies to control robots, or trying out minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopy).
The feedback was clear: participants rated the workshops as highly engaging and informative. The escape room on data privacy received the highest rating across all activities.
We are delighted by the enthusiasm and curiosity of the students – a strong signal for the value of science communication and supporting future generations in STEM fields.
Some of the workshops were developed as part of the projects Talk about Endoscopy! and the innovation cluster SEMECO.
