6G-CampuSens Successfully Completed
The project 6G-CampuSens aims to make 6G technologies, especially integrated sensing (ISAC) and open networks (O-RAN), safe and trustworthy for industrial use. It focuses on identifying security and privacy risks and developing solutions that enable reliable, cost-effective applications. The project was funded by the German Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR).
At the CampuSens final event in Erlangen, Germany, held from March 23-24, 2026, our researchers Dr.-Ing. Stefan Köpsell from the Trustworthy Data Processing research group and Jana Eisoldt presented two demos:
The first demo – Trustworthy Execution of O-RAN xApps on a Microkernel – demonstrates how specialized applications in 5G networks can be operated securely and reliably. It uses a system design based on a microkernel to isolate different components from one another, thereby enhancing security. This also reduces the risk of errors or disruptions.
The second demo – Post Quantum Secure Remote Control of AGVs – illustrates how post-quantum security can be integrated into the control of autonomous vehicles in a smart factory environment. It also includes a digital model of the system (a “digital twin”). This work was developed in collaboration with Umbrella, secunet, and Infineon IFAG.
Stefan Köpsell delivered a keynote titled “Future Directions in Cyber Security Research Funding”, in which he presented a critical perspective on current developments in artificial intelligence from a security standpoint.
In addition, he presented the recently launched ResMedTec project. This project is being carried out by the BI in collaboration with Medical Valley, ICCAS, Vodafone, Scontain, secunet, and FAU. It aims to strengthen the resilience of critical infrastructures and improve the availability of IT/OT systems.
