Student Assistant – Hardware Security (m/f/d)

The Barkhausen Institut performs research on the latest hardware, software and communication technologies and demonstrates their application in tomorrow's society. Our goal is to build a flexible and trustworthy IoT platform based on reliable electronics and secure communication methods.

The research group Secure Digital Systems (SDS) focuses on the study of the security of digital systems, with the aim of making them resilient against real-world attacks. We work both on identifying vulnerabilities, such as physical information leaks and implementation flaws, and also on developing efficient countermeasures.

To help pursue our research agenda, we are looking for a

Student Assistant – Hardware Security (m/f/d)

(up to 19 hours/week, for 6 months) 
 

Your tasks

  • Implement new features in existing hardware designs
  • Research timing and area optimizations
  • Carry out fault injection attacks
  • Gather leakage traces (both power and EM radiation) from physical devices
  • Do the integration of existing hardware modules
  • Run ASIC and FPGA toolchain and related tasks, to obtain metrics on the area of the designs
     

We expect the following

  • Good communication and writing skills in English
  • Knowledge of Verilog (and/or VHDL)
  • Basic knowledge of electrical systems
  • Prior experience with hardware design
  • Should be able to perform lab tasks on-site

  • Payment for the position depends on your degree. If you do not yet have a degree, we pay 13,98 euros per hour. If you have a bachelor's degree, we pay 15,44 euros per hour. If you have a master's degree or diploma, we pay 21 euros per hour.
