Silicon Saxony Days 2026

Barkhausen Institut Showcases its Research in Medical Technology

From the future of chip design to secure microelectronic solutions for healthcare: the Barkhausen Institut (BI) contributed several activities to Silicon Saxony Days 2026. The focus was on the proposal for the planned national Chip Design Competence Center as well as current research from the SEMECO Cluster4Future.

During the event, Prof. Dr. Gerhard Fettweis took part in a press conference and, together with Silicon Saxony Managing Director Frank Bösenberg, accompanied Saxony’s Minister President Michael Kretschmer on a tour of the exhibition.

As part of SEMECO (Secure Medical Microsystems and Communications), the BI also presented several demonstrators at the joint SEMECO booth. The exhibits highlighted research on privacy-preserving machine learning as well as hardware-software platforms for advanced wireless communication and sensing technologies.

The program also included two technical presentations. Dr. Maryam Zarezadeh introduced approaches to privacy-preserving machine learning, while Dr. Padmanava Sen shared insights into the development of RF hardware-software platforms in Saxony. During the SEMECO Talk, Prof. Dr. Gerhard Fettweis and Prof. Dr. med. Jochen Hampe discussed the role of microelectronics in future healthcare and how research results can be transferred into real-world applications.
