Robo Kids: A New Educational Project for Early STEM Education
With “Robo Kids”, the Barkhausen Institut is launching a new educational project for children from socio-economically disadvantaged families. In free programming workshops, pupils in first and second grade are introduced to STEM topics (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) in a playful and age-appropriate way.
The project is enabled by the Klaus Tschira Stiftung. The Barkhausen Institut contributes its long-standing experience from the learning lab as well as its close connection to current research and is responsible for implementing the project.
The aim of “Robo Kids” is to spark early interest in technology and science and to provide children with sustainable access to digital skills. In regular workshops, they learn the basics of programming, strengthen their analytical thinking, and explore first applications of robotics.
The project seeks to encourage continuous engagement with STEM activities throughout the school years and, in the long term, to open up perspectives for vocational training or academic studies in STEM fields.
