MS Wissenschaft 2025 Sets Sail
On May 14, the MS Wissenschaft launched its annual tour across Germany – featuring an interactive exhibit by the Fraunhofer Institute for Integrated Circuits IIS (Fraunhofer IIS) the BI. Titled “On the Go – How Much Energy Does Mobile Internet Consume?”, the exhibit sheds light on a frequently overlooked aspect of digitalization: the growing energy consumption driven by mobile data.
New technologies make it possible to stream, browse, or join video conferences anytime, anywhere. But despite more efficient mobile networks, overall energy consumption continues to rise. The interactive quiz explores the factors influencing energy use and highlights research-driven solutions aimed at reducing this impact.
At the official opening of the exhibition in Berlin, BI and Fraunhofer IIS presented its exhibit to the public for the first time. As one of four selected exhibits, it was showcased to Dorothee Bär, Federal Minister for Research, Technology, and Space. Also in attendance were Dr. Simone Schwanitz, Secretary General of the Max Planck Society and Chairwoman of the Shareholders' Meeting of Wissenschaft im Dialog, and Dr. Benedikt Fecher, Managing Director of Wissenschaft im Dialog.
