Latvian Delegation visits BI

On 20 May 2025, a delegation from Latvia visited the Barkhausen Institut. The group—comprising representatives from business, research institutions, and public authorities, including Latvian Ambassador Alda Vanaga—came as part of the Latvian Chip Initiative to gain insights into Germany’s semiconductor landscape.
Managing Director Tim Hentschel welcomed the guests and presented the institute’s research strategy. A central topic was one of BI’s key missions: developing trustworthy platform chips for networked electronic systems.

A highlight of the visit was a guided tour through the institute’s labs and workshops, where chip development - from concept to tape-out - is carried out. The interactive demonstrators in the Connected Robotics Lab, developed in close collaboration with BI’s research groups, attracted particular attention. These installations showcase both analog and digital chips developed at the BI in real-world applications, offering hands-on insight into current research.
The Latvian Chip Initiative is a national program aimed at strengthening Latvia’s semiconductor ecosystem. Through close collaboration between industry, academia, and government, the initiative seeks to build expertise in chip design and testing, foster skilled professionals, and establish Latvia as a reliable partner in global supply chains.
