From Research to Application: Public talk with Prof. Dr. Gerhard Fettweis in Munich

How do digital technologies move from research labs into everyday life? This question will be explored at the public event “From Research to Application – How Trustworthy Technologies Are Changing Our Lives”, taking place on March 19, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. as part of the “Let’s talk” series at the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and Humanities in Munich.

The evening opens with a talk by Prof. Dr. Gerhard Fettweis, professor of Mobile Communications Systems at Technische Universität Dresden and founding director of the Barkhausen Institut. He will share insights into current developments in trustworthy connected systems, microelectronics, and new mobile communication technologies.

After the talk, visitors can explore research up close. The Connected Robotics Lab and researchers from Barkhausen Institut, together with TU Dresden and TU München, will present interactive exhibits on topics such as the Internet of Things, autonomous driving research, 6G communication, robotics, and security challenges in connected medical devices.

The evening concludes with a panel discussion on “Analog or Digital? Why Flexibility Consumes Energy – and How Systems Can Become More Efficient.” The panel features Prof. Dr. Gerhard Fettweis (Barkhausen Institut, TU Dresden), Prof. Dr. Gerhard Kramer (TU München), Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Utschick (TU München), and Dr. Florian Gast (Barkhausen Institut), moderated by science journalist Andrea Lauterbach.

The event is open to the public and free of charge.
