BI wins Best Poster Award
BI research group Composable Operating Systems attended the 32nd Symposium on Operating Systems Principles (SOSP 2026) in Prague, Czechia, where the poster “Tracing for Microkernel-Based Systems”, jointly developed with TU Dresden, received the Best Poster Award.
The poster presents a common approach to software performance analysis and applies it to microkernel-based systems. The main challenge is that applications running on microkernels are divided into many isolated components. This makes it more difficult to follow how an application executes compared to conventional, non-microkernel systems. The presented tracing mechanism addresses this challenge by combining traces from multiple components into a unified trace, making it possible to follow execution across component boundaries.
Beyond the poster award, it was a great week for the group with three posters presented at the conference.
Dr.-Ing. Carsten Weinhold organized the 14th Workshop on Programming Languages and Operating Systems (PLOS 2026), held in conjunction with SOSP.
Leonie Seelisch from TU Dresden won the Student Research Competition.
