Gemeinsame Funk-Kommunikation und -Sensorik

Können wir ein einziges System verwenden, um die Umgebung zu erfassen und gleichzeitig Daten zu übertragen?

Funkwellen sind elektromagnetische Wellen, die seit langer Zeit für verschiedene Zwecke eingesetzt werden: vor allem für die Kommunikation, aber auch zur Erfassung der Umgebung, so z.B. bei der Objekterkennung mit Radarsystemen. Bislang wurden diese beiden Anwendungen (Kommunikation und Radar) weitgehend getrennt entwickelt und untersucht. Beide beruhen jedoch auf den gleichen physikalischen Phänomenen, sodass die selben Geräte, Spektren und Signale für beide Zwecke verwendet werden können. Das selbe Signal, das zur Übertragung von Informationen von A nach B übertragen wird, wird auch von Objekten in der Umgebung reflektiert. Diese Reflexionen können am Ort A beobachtet und verarbeitet werden, um die Position und Geschwindigkeit dieser Objekte zu bestimmen.

Die Kombination von Kommunikation und Erfassung der Umgebung wird wahrscheinlich eines der Hauptmerkmale zukünftiger Kommunikationssysteme jenseits von 5G sein. Am BI untersuchen wir neue Wellenformen und die entsprechenden Verfahren zur Signalverarbeitung, die sich effizient und kostengünstig für beide Zwecke einsetzen lassen. Gleichzeitig betrachten wir Hardware-Implementierungsszenarien für die entworfenen Systeme und berücksichtigen Hardware-Ungenauigkeiten bei der Algorithmenentwicklung.

Unsere Wissenschaftler sind an der Entstehung des neuen VDE Positionspapiers "Joint Communications & Sensing. Gemeinsame Funk-Kommunikation und -Sensorik" beteiligt.

Das Papier klärt detailliert über die Herausforderungen auf, die JC & S an Wissenschaft, Wirtschaft und auch die Gesellschaft stellt. Gleichzeitig gibt es konkrete Handlungsempfehlungen, wie der Schritt für Deutschland in eine Führungsposition in Sachen 6G mithilfe von Joint Communication & Sensing gelingen kann.
