System and Embedded Developer (m/f/d)

The Connected Robotics Lab merges the results of our research and strives to build compelling demos and visualizations. We aim at showcasing 5G and IoT technologies in realistic real-world applications. With a very flat hierarchy as well as an agile team we provide the perfect environment for you to bring in your ideas. We value communication and teamwork to accomplish our ambitious goals together.

Subject to the approval of third-party funds we are looking for a System and Embedded Developer (m/f/d) to bring these ideas to life together with us. Besides an engineer with good coding skills we seek someone who participates in the whole development process and shares their unique ideas.

What you will do

  • Design and develop embedded devices firmware (ARM, AVR),
  • Develop system programs, networking components and Linux drivers,
  • Test and integrate microcontroller peripherals,
  • Develop automatic firmware and system testing facilities,
  • Develop configuration tools for our demonstrations,
  • Design and implement monitoring and control components.

Your Profile

  • University Degree or professional education in appropriate field (e.g. Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering or comparable),
  • Advanced knowledge in C++, Python,
  • Knowledge of hardware abstraction layers, Linux system architecture, the IP stack, and microcontrollers,
  • Work experience in software architecture, automated testing, continuous integration, and version control (Git),
  • Open to present and communicate our results to the broad public,
  • Experience with electronics, wireless communication protocols, signal processing and visual design are advantageous,
  • Very good communication skills in English or German.

Research Associate: Physical Layer Security (m/f/d)

The Wireless Connectivity group is developing a secure and dependable architecture for the Internet of Things (IoT) using Physical Layer Security.

We are looking for a Research Associate for Physical Layer Security (m/f/d) to creatively pursue our research agenda. Besides sharing your unique ideas, you will work at investigating new Physical-Layer Security techniques and protocols, by means of theoretical work, computer simulations and hardware demonstrations.

Your responsibilities

  • Design and development of physical-layer security techniques and protocols
  • Computer simulation and investigation of proposed techniques
  • Supporting the development of hardware demonstrators
  • Participation in writing research publications and project deliverables

Your profile

  • Above-average MSc/Diploma or PhD degree in areas related to our research focus (Electrical/Computer Engineering) from renowned universities
  • Good communication and writing skills in English
  • An integrative and cooperative personality with excellent communication and social skills
  • Good programming skills, preferably in Python
  • Knowledge of wireless communications and information theory
  • Knowledge of security protocols and architecture

Research Associate: Joint Communications and Radar Sensing (m/f/d)

The Wireless Connectivity group is developing a secure and dependable architecture for the Internet of Things (IoT) using Joint Communications and Radar Sensing.

We are looking for a Research Associate for Joint Communications and Sensing (m/f/d) to creatively pursue our research agenda. Besides sharing your unique ideas, you will work at investigating new signal processing techniques and medium access control protocols for both communications and radar applications, by means of theoretical work, computer simulations and hardware demonstrations.

Your responsibilities

  • Design and development of physical-layer schemes and signal processing techniques for both communications and radar
  • Computer simulation and investigation of proposed techniques
  • Supporting the development of hardware demonstrators
  • Participation in writing research publications and project deliverables

Your profile

Freiwilliges Soziales Jahr in der Wissenschaft

Ab dem 1.09.2021 bietet das Barkhausen Institut eine Stelle (m/w/d) für ein Freiwilliges Soziales Jahr in Wissenschaft Technik und Nachhaltigkeit (FJN) an. Du erhältst die Gelegenheit 12 Monate lang unser Forschungsinstitut kennenzulernen. Dabei wirst du das Labor für vernetzte Robotik unterstützen und Aktivitäten des Schülerlabors mitaufbauen. Begleitet wird das FJN durch die ijgd, welche dir im Laufe des Freiwilligenjahres 25 Seminartage zur Fortbildung anbietet.

Aufgaben:

  • Im Rahmen des Schülerlabors: Unterstützung beim Kontaktaufbau mit Oberschulen, Berufsschulen und Gymnasien in und außerhalb von Dresden, Unterstützung bei der Entwicklung und Durchführung von Schulangeboten
  • Im Rahmen des Labors für vernetzte Robotik: Mitwirken beim Erstellen und Testen von Lernangeboten im Bereich Elektronik, Robotik und Programmierung; Mitwirken bei der Entwicklung von elektronischen Demonstrator- und Laborkomponenten
  • Recherche für die Konzeption von Angeboten mit gesellschaftlichem Bezug wie Umwelt und Nachhaltigkeit
  • Hilfe bei der Betreuung von Schülerpraktika im Haus sowie Dokumentation
  • Einblicke in die Organisation und Dokumentation von Veranstaltungen
  • Schwerpunktlegung kann je nach Interessen/Kompetenzen auf dem Lernlabor oder den Laboraktivitäten liegen

Deine Interessen und Fähigkeiten:

  • Interesse an technischen Fragestellungen (Elektrotechnik, Informatik, Physik)
  • Interesse an gesellschaftlichen Themen und Debatten
  • Interesse an der Vermittlung von Wissen an Kinder/Jugendliche/Erwachsene
  • Kenntnisse in Word, Excel, Powerpoint sowie Führerschein wären von Vorteil, sind aber keine Voraussetzung

Electronic Circuit Designer (m/f/d)

We are looking for an Electronic Circuit Designer (m/f/d) to bring these ideas to life together with us. Besides an engineer with good and pragmatic skills in electronics we seek someone who participates in the whole development process and shares their unique ideas.

What you will do

  • Evaluate analog and digital electronic components such as sensors and motor drivers
  • Design schematics, layout and manufacture circuit boards and other electric components for our demonstrators
  • Design, write and automate firmware testcases for electronic components
  • Test and integrate microcontroller peripherals
  • Support in the procurement of required devices. Support in construction tasks
  • Discuss in the team about overall demonstrator design and engage in the communication of our work to the Open Lab

Your Profile

  • University degree or professional education in appropriate field (Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science or comparable)
  • Experience with electronic design (KiCAD), soldering, debugging and verification
  • Basic experience in automated testing, continuous integration, and version control (Git)
  • Open to present and communicate our results to the broad public
  • Experience with software design, wireless communication protocols and visual design are advantageous
  • Very good communication skills in English or German

Aufgaben

  • Überwachung, Weiterentwicklung und Optimierung der IT-Infrastruktur im Client-, Server- und Netzwerkbereich
  • Installation und Konfiguration von Servern und Software im Microsoft- oder Linux-Umfeld
  • Überwachung und Weiterentwicklung von Sicherheits-, Backup- und Recovery-Konzepten
  • Fehleranalyse und Problembehebung
  • First-Level-Support für unsere Mitarbeiter in allen Bereichen der internen IT
  • Dokumentation und Erstellung von Arbeits- und Prozessabläufen

Anforderungen

  • erfolgreich abgeschlossenes Studium in einer Computerwissenschaft oder erfolgreich abgeschlossene Ausbildung als Fachinformatiker für Systemintegration oder alternativ mehrjähriger Berufserfahrung im oben genannten Aufgabenbereich
  • Erfahrung in der Administration von heterogenen Netzwerkumgebungen mit Windows (Server 2019, Win10 Enterprise Clients) und/oder Linux (Ubuntu, Debian) Servern
  • gute Kenntnisse in den Bereichen Virtualisierung, Active Directory und Microsoft 365
  • von Vorteil wären Kenntnisse in der Administration von Datenbanksystemen (MS SQL, Oracle etc.) sowie hinsichtlich IT-Sicherheitstechnologien (Firewall, VPN, Verschlüsselung)
  • von Vorteil wären Kenntnisse im Bereich HPC mit Kubernetes oder vergleichbaren Systemen
  • breites Fachwissen im IT-Umfeld
  • Serviceorientierung, Teamfähigkeit, eigenverantwortliche und selbstständige Arbeitsweise
  • sehr gute Deutsch- und Englischkenntnisse in Wort und Schrift
